People who ate a breakfast rich in refined carbohydrates were rated less attractive in one study than those who started the day with healthier, unrefined carbohydrates.
What did you have for breakfast this morning, yesterday and the day before yesterday?
From toast to eggs, if you’re a person of habit you’re by no means alone.
A new survey by Alpro has revealed that more than nine million Brits have eaten the same thing for breakfast over the past five years.

Varied breakfast can set us up for the day
providing energy, essential nutrients—and even make us more attractive. Yes it’s true. Scientists at the University of Montpellier found that people who ate a breakfast rich in refined carbohydrates were rated less attractive than those who started the day with healthier, unrefined carbohydrates.

« The general consensus is that eating breakfast is essential for your health , » says Dr Helen Flaherty, public health nutritionist and director of health promotion and education at Heart Research UK, adding, « Skipping breakfast is associated with poor concentration, low energy and can lead to overeating later in the day. It replenishes glucose levels to boost energy and alertness, along with other essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients required for good health.”

Chef Dennis Littley (askchefdennis.com) agrees. « Breakfast is not just a meal, it is a nutritious base for the next day. A well-balanced breakfast fuels our body and mind, providing essential nutrients and energy , » he says, adding, « It kickstarts our metabolism, improves concentration, and contributes to overall well-being. But when people eat the same thing every day, they miss out on a variety of nutrients that a hearty breakfast can provide. »

5 unwritten rules of breakfast
Vary the ingredients
Incorporate a mix of whole grains, protein and fruit. Experiment with different types of bread, cereals and dairy or non-dairy options.
Colorful and fresh
Include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables to add color and freshness. These options not only enhance the visual appeal but also contribute to the nutritional value of the meal.
Balance the flavors
A good breakfast should balance sweet and savory flavors. Don’t be afraid to experiment with herbs, spices and seasonings to upgrade the taste.
Texture game
Mix textures for a more interesting eating experience. Combine creamy yogurt with crunchy granola or add nuts for a delicious crunchy meal.
Preparation in advance
Plan and prepare ingredients ahead of time to save time on busy mornings. Having a variety of prepared items allows for quick and easy creation of different breakfast options.
